When a politician says that people want…, you need to ask which people he is referring to.

Is he referring to all the people (which he is implying)?

Is he referring to the people in his district or state?

OR

Is he referring to his campaign contributors (most likely)?

On what data is he basing his opinion (polls, letters, phone calls, emails)?

If he chooses to follow the people, how does he explain his votes which are contrary to non-partisan polls?

WHY ISN’T THE MEDIA ASKING THESE QUESTIONS?

Saint Patrick is described as the patron saint of the Irish because he drove the snakes out of Ireland. He also used the shamrock to teach the Catholic church doctrine regarding the Holy Trinity.

Jump a couple of hundred years into the future, and the celebration has morphed into a bibulous consumption of green beer, wearing of green, kissing, and pinching.

Now I, myself, am not past having a couple of cold ones green or otherwise.

I do not, however, drink on St. Pat’s Day. Why? IT’S AMATEUR HOUR FOR DRINKERS!!! I also try to stay off the highways. Hopefully, you do the same.

Alflie was an old dog when he finally caught one of the squirrels that had tormented him his whole life.  They would come up to our screemed in porch and chatter until he chased them and then up the tree out of his reach they would go.  Well, whoever said that every dog has his day, can chalk this up as an example.

Alfie, I am so glad that you finally caught your tormentor before you left.

how the members of the Republican party seem to use a lot of the same language when talking about anything?  That’s because they do.  They call them “talking points”.  The advantage of “talking points” is that they preclude discussion, cooperation, or eventual compromise which might lead to positive action demanded by the American people.  That is how we can have vast majorities of the American people in favor of things like gun safety, gay marriage, addressing global warming, pollution, etc. and have Congress do nothing.  And, yes, Democrats are guilty of doing the same thing.

It is obvious there are modern politicians who have no interest in doing what is good for the country.  Their only interest is in what will fill their own pockets or get them re-elected.  They truly exhibit the opposite of JFK’s book “Profiles in Courage”.  The vast majority of our Congress truly edihibits profiles in cowardice.

I would like to offer a solution, but alas, with gerrymandering, the Supreme Court, and the states trying to destroy the federal government; I am at a loss.

Until the American people exercise their right to vote (whoops, that’s right, Republican legislatures across the nation are taking away the right to vote); we won’t see change.

I am reminded of another time in our nation’s history when the founding fathers found themselves in a similar situation and wrote these words.

“,,, when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.–Such has been the patient sufferance of these Colonies; and such is now the necessity which constrains them to alter their former Systems of Government.”

Are we at that point?

Can our Congress rededicate itself to the purposes outlined in the preamble to the Constitution?

“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”

Will they ever admit that there is more to the purpose of our government than providing for the common defense?

Will the about to be released budget reflect all the goals set by the founding fathers?  Or, will the budget focus on providing for the military, whether for common defense or the military industrial complex?

We must judge Congress by their actioins, not by their sound bites.

Why The Secret?

We are educated in our traffic laws.  We must stop at “Stop” signs.  We must stop when a traffic light turns red.  We had to know these aspects of traffic law before we could get a license.

Why then is the public not informed or educated as to when the police may use force or “deadly” force.  Why are these protocols kept secret.  For that matter shouldn’t they be taught as well as traffic laws.

If I know that asking an officer why I am being detained means that he may use force, shouldn’t that be information that would be helpful to both me and the officer trying to do his duty.

Do you as a non law inforcement citizen know the protocol of you local policle, sheriff, and highway patrol for the following:

– a citizen demands to know why he is being detained,

– a citizen asks for an officer’s badge number or name,

– a citizen refuses to get face down on the ground,

– a citizen puts his hand in his pocket while being questioned,

– a citizen runs away,

– a citizen flees the scene in a non-violent incident,

– in which situations may an officer engage in a high speed chase and in what kind of places such as residential neighborhoods, highly congested areas, etc.,

– in which situations may an officer draw his weapon,

– under what circumstances may he fire that weapoon,

– is an officer required to use other means of resolving a conflict before he resorts to physical force?

I remind you that the question was whether you “know” not whether you think, guess, or have heard.

If you don’t know, does government and its law enforcement officers share in the responsibility of keeping you informed?
