The Story Behind the Photo

The story:  Alfie, our standard poodle, and Brodie, a friends golden lab are best Buds.  Today they were working on both staying at the same time.  If they both stayed until they were released, they each got a delicious  piece of beef heart.

Each time they tried Alfie couldn’t wait for the release command.  Finally Brodie put his paw on Alfie’s, and they finally were able to earn their treat.

ALFIE 2.0 TEN MONTHs LATER

I have never had a rescue dog before.  What I have learned is that they take patience.  The temptation is to push them to improve.

He has been working in Rally and Agility,  He loves the tunnel and constantly wants to go back to it.  These are things that he does for us and with us.

Yesterday was a milestone.  Alfie for the first time left us and went out in our yard without us.  It was a very brave thing for hlim to do as he ordinarily will not break line of sight contact.  He also for the first time went and got a plush toy and played with it. He has also started to chase the little lizards that abound here in Florida.

He has turned out to be the best of our three standard poodles.

Nothing Can Be Finer….

Than the dog park on a Saturday morning.  Especially if a little Corgi is coming into heat.  What was the owner thinking?  And, of course, there were multiple males and an insuing scrum.

Please do not bring dogs to the dog parks when they are in or approaching being in heat.

If you cannot tell, ask another owner with a female to explain the facts of life to you.

Thanks.Scan 82_2

Alfie2.0 Has A Major Milestone

Alfie has discovered the little lizards that abound in Florida.  Alfe is also hunting them.  He’s definitely getting his dog on.  It’s good to see him enjoying dog type activities.  It also indicates where he is developmentally as a “rescue” dog.  It’s like baby’s first steps.  We have had him for around five months now.
