It’s all in history!

Standard

The problem is that people don’t read history.  All that is happening today happened in our history whether it was Nero fidling while Rome burned, or the Germans doing nothing while Hitler used propoganda against immigrants, the press, and the educated while having rallies to satisfy his own ego and terrify those who might oppose him.

Certainly at least one of our Senators or Member of the House studied history.  Where are they?  Who is writing their own profile in courage?

Matthew in 12:30 wrote: “He who is not with me is against me.”image

As one who is watching what is going on in this great country, allowed by its people, encouraged by its leaders;  I can only repeat ” Eli Eli lema sabachthani.”

Why I Might Approve SCOTUS Ruling In Favor of Hobby Lobby

Standard

Ok, SCOTUS has already ruled that corporations are people.  Then, people must be corporations.

If the court rules that corporations can not obey the law of the land if it disagrees with their religious freedom, then people are entitled to the same protection under the Constitution.

That means that if it is my belief that war is immoral and I am  opposed to the actions of our military, I will not have to pay my income tax for whatever percentage of the budget that was for the military.

If it is my belief that it is immoral to kill animals for food, then I will not have to pay that percentage of the federal budget that provides benefits or tax benefits to the beef industry.

If it is my belief that the Congress is immoral in the way that they fail to conduct the business of the people, I can deduct the portion of my tax bill that goes to paying their and their aids salaries.

I could certainly the savings in my tax dollars.  What if I believe it is immoral to take form someone that belongs to them without their permission;  I wouldn’ have to pay any income tax at all.

I’m not a lawyer or Supreme Court judge; but….

It’s Time to Make a Choice

Part of the problem with Christianity is that its followers have failed to throw off the yoke of The Old Testament.  The New Testament and the Old Testament are diametrically opposed.  The New Testament teaches love, compassion, caring.  The Old Testament is about violence and revenge.  What else can you call the threat of fire, brimstone and damnation.

What if our politicians were not allowed to quote the Old Testament, but instead were only allowed to quote the New Testament.  The New Testament is one of inclusion.  If we get rid of the Old Testament, we could really mean it when we asked, “What would Jesus do?”.

WWJD about extending unemployment compensation?

WWJD about funding meals on wheels?

WWJD about Medicaid?

WWJD about immigration reform?

WWJD about gay marriage?

WWJD about the money changers on Wall Street?

WWJD about Social Security?

WWHD about a man who couldn’t find a job?  (Would he suggest to his followers that they should teach a man to fish when there was one fish for each fisherman?

WWJD about casting the first stone at a sinner?

WWJD about any social issue?

How can we as a society continue to support and elect politicians who insist that our government does the exact opposite of WWJD?

THE ANSWER IS THAT WE ALLOW THEM TO SPIT THEIR THEIR VENOM UNCHALLENGED, AND THEN WE VOTE THEM INTO OFFICE.

JOB ONE for the Veterans Administration

Standard

Ford Motor was in big trouble.  The cars they produced were in a word horrible.  Today, they are one of the best domestic cars made.

How did they do it?  It was a program called “JOB ONE”.  I knew workers involved in  this program at the Lorain Ford assembly plant in Lorain Ohio.

Ford went to all their workers and asked how can we make a better product, and how can we do it more efficiently?  They told the workers that if their suggestions were instituted, they would get a cash bonus.  Workers i knew earned rewards from a few hundred dollard to a few thousand dollars for an individual suggestion.  Some workers earned more than one bonus.

Why is business and government so reticent to ask the people who do the job on a daily basis how the job can be done better?  Instead of blue ribbon committees, special committees, and high priced consultants from businessand Wall Street; I would suggest, ask, even beg that the Veterans Administration ask the people who do the job what needs to be done.

I hope that after decades, The V.A. and this President will finally ask those with real expertise how to get the job done best.  Could a few bonuses cost more than what is currently wasteed in political theatre and finger pointing?

I know I am an optimist, but maybe somebody in the V.A. or the government will think about a different way to approach this and other problems.

CANNON FODDER?

Standard

Based upon what we have seen our government do to our veterans for decades, the only conclusion is that all three branches view them as cannon fodder for the military, industrial, corporate, financial complex.  One Republican, the chairman of the committee, said basically in a letter to the veteran’s organizations after they testified before his subcommittee that they all were a bunch of self-serving whiners.  He also left the committee for the entirety of their presentations; returning at the end to dismiss them.
