THE CHAIR

There will come a time in your life when your significant other will ask you to go shopping with her.  Do not bring up the game you wanted to watch or mowing the lawn.  You are not being offered a choice.

You will eventually end up in the woman’s section of a department store.  Once there a clerk will kindly offer a chair and a magazine to enjoy while your partner shops.  Quietly, but firmly decline because if you sit, you will be in the department for hours on end while the clerk helps your shopper.

Instead, ask your significant other what she is looking for, size, color, etc.  She will look at you with new respect and love for being so interested and helpful.  Once she has selected something she will want to take it to the changing room to try it on.

Once she is in the fitting room, go to the clothing racks and select three other items in her size.  When she comes out to show you how the article looks on her, she will ask your opinion.   say something safe like “it’s a nice color for you.” or “it looks good on you.”  Then say “I thought you might like to try on these three on.”

Repeat until she is so tired from trying on clothes that she offers to take you for a drink.  There is also a chance that it will be the last time you are invited to go shopping with her.

Live, Grow, and Prosper?

apnews.com/cab6dcbdb37341f39fb50f806aca0182

I understand how you can refuse abortions by this legislation, but please list the laws that allow a child to grow. Are we talking about food stamps, Medicaid, early child hood education, school funding, teacher education?

What laws do you have to enable them to prosper? A guaranteed living wage, universal medicine, free tuition, vocational training, and certified and trained teachers?

What is your state’s ranking in these areas? If your state is in the top 10%, help us in other states learn how to help a child grow and prosper.

If your state is not doing these things then you are plainly only interested in the fetus and not so much interested in the child that is born.

Torches and Pitchforks at the Castle Gate

storming the gate
Why are the federal and state governments facilitating the acquisition of military style weapons and equipment by local police forces?

I suggest that a review of recent legislation and court rulings provides a possibility.  In random order these are:
– Citibank writing the language dismantling of Dodd-Frank law,
– cuts in SNAP,
– refusal to extend unemployment compensation,
– the failure to prosecute those shooting the poor and black,
– 47% comments,
– cutting of educational funding,
– laws which allow major corporations to pay no federal income tax,
– voter suppression of elderly, poor and youth,
– the increase of wealth by the wealthiest compared to the middle class and the poor,
– a military system which uses primarily the poor,
– corporations have the same rights as people,
– money is free speech ergo, Jimie Dimon,
– reduction of retiree’s pensions,
– attacks on unions,
– opposition to a living wage,
ad nauseam.

Basically, there is a movement in which legislation and policy are aimed at aiding the wealthy (like Congress) to increase their riches and power by taking from the poor, the working poor, women, the youth, the aged, and the middle class.

The numbers affected by this sea change in wealth distribution are growing exponentially.

The frustration and anger are growing exponentially.

There will be a point where rage will erupt.

The wealthy and the powerful have been careful not to attack the firefighters, the police and the army.  They have been systematically preparing the national guard and local sheriffs and police departments to “handle” any protest which they will call insurrection.

The one percent will be ready when the torches and pitchforks appear at the castle gate.

How to Change the Conservative Justices’ Opinion on Contraception, Women, and Abortion!

The clue to how to change conservative justice(s) opinion on abortion, contraception, and women’s rights lies in their vote on a recent decision by the court. That case was: Riley v. California in which the court ruled unanimously that police needed warrants to search the cellphones of people they arrest.

I, along with many others, attribute this apparent contradiction on limitation on police power to the fact that all of the Supreme Court justices, including the conservative five, have and use cell phones. Their aids use cell phones and therefore, they understand the need for privacy.

Based upon that peek into how they think and rule, I make the following suggestion.

We need to get these old white men hooked up with some really hot young chicks of child bearing age. They should also be professional women; no, not that kind of profession. I mean women who work in business or finance or industry who are single mothers trying to support a family and need their reproductive rights protected. Or, they could be unemployed single mothers not wanting anymore children. Or, they could be women who are trying to survive with their family on minimum wage and cannot afford another child or health insurance.

Perhaps if they were as familiar with the plight of women, who are not the wives of Supreme Court Justices, as they are with cell phones, they would think differently when they rule that a company can discriminate against a woman on religious grounds.

THE CHAIR

file6861241553992     If you have the good fortune to have a girlfriend or wife or significant other, or think you may ever someday be lucky enough to be in that situation, you need to know about the “chair”.

Being with a lady, the time will eventually come where she will invite you to go shopping with her. You will ask her what she is shopping for. She will give you a look like you have two heads and will mumble something about a skirt or blouse or something. Listen up; women don’t shop for something. For them shopping is the end in itself. If you had known that, you would have used whatever excuse you could to avoid “going shopping”.

Well, you didn’t know, and you said “yes”, and now you are in a department store, You are in the ladies department. The nice young clerk has escorted you to “the comfortable chair”. You sit down. You will be there for hours.

You must never, never, never ever sit in the chair. Once you are in the “chair” you are at the mercy of the clerk and your shopper. Side note, if she gets a skirt, she will need a blouse, and a belt, and shoes, and purse, and jewelry, etc. You’ll wish you had packed a lunch and brought an iPod so you could watch a movie. But you didn’t, and so you will sit, and sit, and sit. What to say when she asks what you think of an article of clothing will be another blog. For now, pretend you are choking and wave her back to the changing room.

How do you avoid the chair?

First of all, you really don’t have a choice about going shopping with your significant other unless you want to end your relationship. So, what to do?

Listen carefully.

The first thing you must do is get the lady to say what she is shopping for. This will be very important later. Next you want to know what size she needs. (Don’t ever act surprised about the size or ask her to repeat it unless you want the silent treatment or you’re willing to try and answer the question: “Just what did you mean by that”?)

So, you now know what she is looking for and the size. When she has found an item that she likes, you suggest she try it on in the changing room. She will look lovingly at you for being such a helpmate. As soon as she disappears onto the changing room, you head for the clothes racks which contain the item she was looking for. Once there, you pick three items from the rack in her size and proceed to the changing room. As soon as she comes out, give her your three items to try on. Continue this process until she gets tired. Then, being a supportive help mate, you suggest you get some lunch and head for the nearest sports bar.

You have been a good helpmate, avoided the chair, enjoyed lunch and a drink in a sports bar and can get home in time to catch a sporting event. Congratulations!
